Spencer Lewis learned pianos before he learned trucks. For years he tuned and delivered instruments for a Wilmington dealer, rolling new grands into the chateau estates above Kennett Pike one week and easing a console up a narrow Trolley Square rowhome the next. He saw how carefully a soundboard had to be handled, and he saw how roughly the general movers who hauled those same instruments tended to treat them. In 2011 that gap pushed him to buy a truck of his own and start a company built around one belief: an instrument should ride with people who understand instruments, and the price should be written down where the customer can hold us to it. That is the company that now works out of 260 Chapman Rd, Suite 200 in Newark, fully licensed and insured to cover Delaware end to end.
Fifteen years later, Spencer still runs the place. We own the trucks outright, we operate our own climate-controlled storage, and our quotes go on paper so there is nothing to argue about on move day. The people who call us have not changed much either: a Greenville household with a concert grand and a four-bedroom to empty, a Dover congregation moving its organ across town, a University of Delaware professor leaving Newark, a couple downsizing into a Rehoboth cottage. The hardest instrument work, Spencer still takes himself: the concert and baby grands leaving the Greenville and Centreville estates, an organ coming out of a Kent County sanctuary, anything that has to clear a porch, round a tight turn, or descend a flight of old rowhome stairs. Our road lead owns the long hauls, so a family bound for Philadelphia, New York, or Virginia rides with one crew the whole distance. Apartment turnovers, student loads near the University of Delaware, and senior downsizing get a lead who is at home in cramped landings and end-of-lease scrambles. And before a single engine starts, the Newark office has the certificate of insurance filed, the dock or elevator booked, and a legal place lined up for the rig to park.
